Resources on Matthew

Matthew is a very neat and orderly writer. He was a tax gatherer and an accountant, so he knows how to organize the books. Since he has been so careful to organize his Gospel, and if we take it seriously that he was an inspired apostle, we ought to take his writing seriously. It’s not just a jumble of unrelated topics. Matthew’s predominant motive in writing his record is to persuade us to come and take the yoke of Christ. He is king, his yoke is easy, and in coming to him we find rest for our souls.
